Gettin’-It-On at the Grafton Community Farm

My lovely man and I passed a recent weekend in Grafton, Vermont. A charming, picturesque community, we enjoyed swimming in our skivvies in a pond teeming with tadpoles, salamanders, and frogs; cruising on bicycles along blessedly quiet, gentle country words; sampling Grafton’s artisinal, aged Cheddar; licking maple syrup from sticky, ceramic pots; and cooing at the gorgeous sheep, goats, and cows that approached us from verdant, emerald pastures. We spent three days ensconced in a bucolic dream.

Our dreamfest exploded into hand-cultivated vegetable ecstasy when we chanced upon the Grafton Community Organic Farm. With a mission to “grow healthy food and community spirit,” this well-tended garden rests adjacent to a marsh, surrounded by lush forest.

What follows is a pictorial essay about the garden’s myriad treasures–most of which, I couldn’t keep my mitts off, meaning many a sugar-snap pea pod and bright-green basil leaf found its way into my paws. From the ground to the mouth just tastes so good.
