They were founded in 1941 with only 23 dairy cows. They became the first-ever organic creamery west of the Mississippi. Their 100-percent organic milk supports sustainable, rural-community planning. Ms. Martha Stewart even calls their dairy products “extraordinary!” That’s no small compliment, coming from Martha.
In short, Straus Family Creamery is totally smoking, and it my incredible honor and pleasure to meet with owner Albert Straus next week. We’re convening at their corporate headquarters in Petaluma, for a conversation about a variety of subjects: the practical challenges of keeping-afloat a sustainable, family business; what it really means, in a world of slick marketers, to be an organic company; and what message Mr. Straus would deliver to die-hard vegans, who are rightly concerned about animal welfare.
